Hello, my name is Liza Paul and I am a rising sophomore at Pitt Community College in Greenville, NC. I am studying graphic design, and will be graduating in May 2020 with an Associate’s Degree and Certificate in Design.
I have spent the last ten weeks interning at Acculink, and it has been extraordinary! I have been designing for less than a year. Interning for such a great company was a little daunting at first, but I learned more basics of being a graphic designer. Deciding upon what looked good, and what didn’t and how to use all the programs that graphic designers use, I realized that I had just scratched the surface of what it took to be a designer. However, I wanted to know much more than just the basics, to dig way deeper than what I had already done. So, that’s why I wanted to be at Acculink for my internship. The first time I met the team at Acculink, I knew that they had my best interest in mind. They wanted me to get the best experience from the internship that I could possibly have. The environment was one in which I knew I’d feel comfortable working, learning, and growing.
Since I have been here, I have learned so much that has helped me to become more successful. My mentor and the other graphic designers at Acculink have helped mold me into a confident designer. My first day, I knew just the basics of InDesign. I could use this program but I would have to constantly ask someone, “Where’s this?” or “How do you do that?”. I even thought about buying a “InDesign for Dummies” book. However after my mentor showed me several tips on how to use InDesign and through practicing and watching tutorials, I have grown to love InDesign.
Acculink gives each intern three personal projects that they can get printed. I thought this was pretty awesome and I was super excited to work on these three projects.
Who says that my dreams have to stay just my dreams?
My name is Anna Spruill. I am from Greenville NC and I like to make colorful and crazy designs. I applied for this internship because I wanted to get a better understanding on what it is like to be a graphic designer. I was given the opportunity to design three products of my choice.
The first piece I designed was a happy birthday poster for my friend, she loves anything princess punk rock. I made the background myself by using the paint brush tool in Photoshop and used splattered paint as the background. I then put a big skull and cross bones with a pink bow on it for the focal point.
The second thing I designed was a throw blanket. I used InDesign to place the images. It has all my favorite anime characters. They are full of imagination and color. These movies got my attention by the characters and how every movie has its own unique story to tell.
The last thing I made was a poster about a festival in Japan called Tanabata (star festival). I got the idea from the story that is told on Tanabata. It is a sweet and tragic love story. I put the Milky Way as the background. Then I placed the two lovers reuniting at the Milky May. I positioned bamboo wishing paper in the top right and left corners. I used Photoshop for this project.
My experience using InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop has developed. I learned how to use different tools. I also learned how to analyze a job ticket and gather the information to complete a job. I enjoyed getting creative and seeing my friends’ reactions when I presented them with my designs.
Anything is possible
